: : The Project : :
Year 7 Cross Curricular Environmental Science Project
: : Learning Objectives : :
To understand the cause and effects of global warming.
To measure environmental pollution and general environmental quality along an urban-rural transect.
To understand how environmental quality may affect quality of life.
To understand how environmental pollution contributes towards global warming on a local, national and International scale.
To understand that different groups of people are more at risk from the effects of environmental pollution and the effects of global warming.
: : Overview : :
A group of 15 Year 7 students were taken off timetable for one week to carry out a cross-curricular project with the main focus being environmental science and ICT.
The main aim of the week was for the students to produce content for a website that will educate students within their school, other schools and the wider community about environmental pollution in Bradford and how this will influence the effect of global warming in Bradford, now and in the future. They will understand the causes and the effects of global warming. They will decide whether there are some places more at risk than others by carrying out different tests. They will then look at their results and describe and explain how some factors can be linked together. They will then prove or disprove each of the three hypotheses that will be devised before they complete the fieldwork.
By looking at the results they will draw conclusions as to what they think should be done in the future to combat the effects of global warming.
: : Hypothesis to test : :
The levels of Carbon Monoxide will decrease with distance from the CBD.
Noise pollution will decrease with distance from the CBD
General environmental quality will improve with distance from the CBD.
