Fair Usage

  • I will only access the system with my own login and password, which I will keep secret
  • I will not access other people's files or copy their work
  • I will only use the computers for school work and homework during school opening hours
  • I will not bring in floppy disks or CD ROMs from outside the City Learning Centre or school unless I have been given permission
  • I understand that any floppy disks and CD ROMS will be scanned for viruses
  • I will not e-mail people that I do not know, unless I have received approval
  • The messages I send will be polite and responsible
  • I will not give my home address or telephone number, or arrange to meet someone, unless my parent, carer or teacher has given permission
  • I will report any unpleasant material or messages sent to me. I understand my report would be confidential and would help protect other users and myself
  • I understand that the City Learning Centre may check my computer files and will monitor the Internet sites I visit.
  • I will only eat or drink in the areas set out for that purpose.
  • I will treat all other users and staff with respect and will not indulge in any anti-social behaviour.
  • I will play video and music clips at a volume that does not disturb other users and staff
  • I will help to keep the City Learning Centre clean and tidy.
  • I will not use the Internet to access inappropriate materials such as pornographic, racist or offensive material.
 
 
Discipline

  • Staff will, in the first instance, ask politely for behaviour to be modified so that the rules are followed.
  • If behaviour is not modified or a second instance of rule breaking follows, the user will be asked to leave the City Learning Centre for the rest of the day, or if it is in the afternoon for the whole of the following day.
  • If rules are broken persistently then membership of the City Learning Centre will be withdrawn. Suspension will result in the users login being withdrawn for that period. This decision is at the City Learning Centre Manager’s discretion.
  • Any user has the right to appeal against such a ban to the City Learning Centre Managing Board.
  • major infringement of the rules will result in immediate suspension from the CLC.

Internet Use

The computer system is owned by the City Learning Centre and is made available to users of the City Learning Centre to further their education, and to staff to enhance their professional activities including teaching, research, administration and management. The City Learning Centre’s Internet Access Policy has been drawn up to protect all parties - the students, the staff and the City Learning Centre.
The City Learning Centre reserves the right to examine or delete any files that may be held on its computer system and to monitor any Internet sites visited
  • All Internet activity should be appropriate to staff professional activity or the student's education;
  • Access should only be made via the authorised account and password, which should not be made available to any other person;
  • Activity that threatens the integrity of the City Learning Centre ICT systems, or activity that attacks or corrupts other systems, is forbidden;
  • Users are responsible for all e-mail sent and for contacts made that may result in e-mail being received;
  • Use for personal financial gain, gambling, political purposes or advertising is forbidden;
  • Copyright of materials must be respected;
  • Posting anonymous messages and forwarding chain letters is forbidden;
  • As e-mail can be forwarded or inadvertently be sent to the wrong person, the same professional levels of language and content should be applied as for letters or other media;
  • Use of the network to access inappropriate materials such as pornographic, racist or offensive material is forbidden.
  • Users of the City Learning Centre must sign a copy of this Acceptable Internet Use Statement and return it to the City Learning Centre Manager.
