“Tomorrow’s Learning Today”

The City Learning Centre @ Carlton Bolling (CLC) is located in Bradford's centre. It is DFES funded and works within the Bradford Strategy to :
Act as pioneers for innovation and new approaches to teaching and learning;
Enhance learning by providing additional courses and opportunities for pupils and teachers which involve ICT based teaching and learning;
Deliver services and outreach support for a network of local schools. This includes providing extension activities for gifted and talented pupils and study support facilities, after school and school holiday learning opportunities, and other facilities such as language laboratories or cyber-cafes;
Share best practice - including teacher training packages - with neighbouring schools, and also to provide links with other learning centres, specialist and beacon schools, the University for Industry, and the National Grid for Learning etc
Provide ICT facilities to community groups and businesses and to support where necessary

What is a CLC?

City Learning Centres are part of the Excellence In Cities initiative. Excellence in Cities (EiC) is a targeted programme to bring additional resources to address the needs of our core urban areas. It brings a new approach that increases the diversity of provision for pupils but at the same time encourages schools to co-operate to raise standards. It aims to extend learning opportunities for pupils of all abilities.

One of the key elements of the EiC programme is the establishment of a network of school-based City Learning Centres (CLCs). There are now 105 CLCs operating in EiC areas across the country. The Centres provide state-of-the art ICT-based learning opportunities for students at a network of surrounding schools and for the wider community.

The City Learning Centre @ Carlton Bolling supports secondary and primary schools throughout the district and beyond. Our mission is to provide unique learning experiences for students, teachers and community and to support and develop the innovative implementation of teaching and learning.

The CLC also provides access for adult education groups from the community and supports relevant LEA ICT initiatives.
